Some tension doesn’t respond to pressure. You can have the deepest massage of your life and still wake up with a clenched jaw, a headache on schedule, and shoulders parked up by your ears. That’s because the problem isn’t only in the muscle—it’s in a nervous system that won’t stand down. Craniosacral therapy works at exactly that level.
What it is, briefly
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on practice that works with the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord, using a touch so light it’s often compared to the weight of a coin. Because nothing is forced, the nervous system never has to defend itself—so it can finally let go.
Jaw & TMJ tension
The jaw is one of the most over-worked, over-clenched joints in the body, and it’s wired tightly into the head, neck, and stress response. Craniosacral work around the jaw, head, and upper neck can invite that holding pattern to release without prying at a sensitive, irritable joint—which is exactly what an angry jaw doesn’t want.
Tension headaches
When headaches come from a chronically braced neck, jaw, and nervous system, calming the whole system often does more than chasing the pain. Many clients come specifically for the headaches that arrive every afternoon—and leave with the volume turned down.
A nervous system stuck in overdrive
Hard training, stress, and poor sleep can leave you wired-but-tired—unable to switch off even when you’re exhausted. Craniosacral therapy helps shift the body toward its rest-and-repair state, which is why it pairs so well with sports massage for athletes and suits sensitive, older, and recovering bodies alike.
A note on what it isn’t
Craniosacral therapy is a calming, complementary practice—not a treatment for migraine disorders, a diagnosed TMJ joint problem, or any medical condition. If your headaches are new, severe, or changing, or your jaw pain is significant, see a physician or dentist; we’re glad to work alongside them.
